Pink October – take care of yourself. Breast cancer prevention and the strength of women
For years, October has been a month devoted to breast cancer prevention. Pink October reminds us how important it is to look after our health, be attentive to signals sent by our bodies, and have regular preventive screenings.
It is also a time of solidarity with women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer—those undergoing treatment, those returning to health, and those supporting other women on their journey. That is why, as part of this year’s Pink October activities, we asked the Stowarzyszenie Aktywne Amazonki from Dębowiec for a statement — an organization that every day creates a space for support, education, and mutual strength for women affected by cancer.
Prevention begins with awareness.
Taking care of your health doesn’t have to mean big changes. Sometimes the most important thing is the first, small step—book an appointment, get the recommended screening, or simply pay more attention to
In breast cancer, early detection is especially important—so it’s worth knowing your breasts and reacting to any new or worrying changes. Any change that makes us uneasy should be discussed with a doctor.
Active Amazon Women emphasize that it’s important to remember a few simple
- Know your breasts—watch for new or worrying changes.
- Respond to worrying symptoms—consult a doctor about every new change.
- Have preventive screenings regularly suited to your age and individual health situation.
- Check the date of your next doctor’s consultation or
- Don’t put screenings off—if the date has already passed,
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle, which is an important part of caring for
It’s not about living in constant fear of illness. It’s about conscious self-care and making sure you don’t postpone your own health.
One small step can be an important step for your health.
Active Amazon Women from Dębowiec—together
A cancer diagnosis can completely change everyday life. Questions arise, along with uncertainty and fears about treatment and the future. In such a time, the presence of people who truly understand what we are going through can be invaluable.
That space is created by the Stowarzyszenie Aktywne
Active Amazon Women are a community of women united by the experience of cancer—but above all by the need for mutual support, taking action, and building strength at every stage of returning to health.
In the Stowarzyszenie community, you’ll find
- are after a diagnosis,
- are undergoing treatment,
- have completed treatment and want to support
- need conversations, understanding, and the feeling that
“You don’t have to be strong all the time with us. You can talk—or just listen. You can come exactly as you are.”—Active Amazon Women emphasize.
Support, activity, and education
The Stowarzyszenie’s work focuses on improving the quality of life of Amazon Women. Among other things, it organizes integration meetings, physical activities, educational workshops, and initiatives related to psychological
But this is not only help for women who have already encountered the illness. An important area of work for Active Amazon Women is also prevention and health
The Association takes part in campaigns promoting early detection of breast cancer and encourages women of all ages to care for their health, get to know their own bodies, and undergo regular preventive screenings.
Because prevention is not only about screenings. It’s also awareness that your health matters—and that it’s worth making
You are not alone
Pink October is an opportunity to talk more openly about prevention, but caring for our health should accompany us all year
If you’re after a diagnosis, going through treatment, or you simply need to talk to someone who understands your experience—you don’t have to face it alone.
